Boater Safety Course

WCLA is sponsoring a Boater Safety Course for individuals 10+ to receive their New York boating safety certificate. $30 for WCLA Members, $50 for Non-Members.

Boater Safety Course

The course will be held at the Caroga Town Hall and be available to 10-year-olds to adults on July 17th from 8am–4pm. We need a minimum of 6 people with a maximum of 30. The cost is $50 per person, plus a state fee of $10 for the certificate. The WCLA will cover $20 of the $50 fee for WCLA members. The course will be offered to the general public as space is available.

About New York Boating Certificates:

All individuals born on or after January 1, 1993, are required to have a boating certificate. After January 1, 2022, everyone born on or after January 1, 1988, will be required to have a certificate. By January 1, 2025, all boaters will be required to have a boating safety certificate.


Please note: To operate a personal watercraft, you must be 14 years of age or older, and you are required to have a boating safety certificate.


If you have already been certified, all NYS boating safety certificates issued after 2000, regardless of age, are acceptable, but you must be in possession of the certificate.
